This is the answer to a letter from a Muslim biologist who enquired about the religious status of those who subscribe to Darwin’s theory of evolution. The author shows, firstly, that from the point of view of coherence, logicality, and applicability, serious weakness can be identified in the Darwinian thesis. He then outlines the religious judgement on evolutionary theory, demonstrating that the idea that humanity arose as the consequence of natural selection and random mutation is kufr (unbelief). The true source of knowledge is the intellect as properly understood, as encompassing the ruh, the spirit, which recognises revelation, and is inspired with truth. The unaided human mind, by contrast, can never gauge the nature of humanity, still less grasp the mastery of its origin.
