Steve Biko / Lindy Wilson

Availability: 1 in stock
Part of Ohio Press' Short Histories of Africa
£10.99

Steve Biko is one of the symbols of South African self-determination who inspired a generation of black South Africans to claim their true identity and refuse to be part of the state oppression. Through his own courageousness he led the Black Student Movement till it became countrywide and directly challenged the culture of intolerance the apartheid regime was proliferating. His brutal death only emboldened many black South Africans and helped cultivate the anti-apartheid movement.

Lindy Wilson goes further in evaluating how Biko's understanding of black consciousness was utilised as a tool to achieve black liberation. Well researched with interviews and his own writings, this has all the makings of a stellar biography.
