Award-winning drama about a Muslim community in the north of England, set in the time just before and just after the September 11th attacks in America. Yasmin (Archie Panjabi) is a young Muslim woman managing to walk the divide between her Islamic upbringing and her western way of life, agreeing to an arranged marriage but still engaging with the British society in which she lives. All this changes after the September 11th attacks, when Yasmin's new husband is arrested under the anti-terror laws, and she experiences abuse at work. Yasmin must campaign to free her husband while undergoing a crisis in her sense of identity. Is she a Muslim first, or British, and is it still possible to be both at once?
