This book is amongst the earliest works in the study of Usul al-Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) and is often used as an introductory text in Usul al-Fiqh in many Muslim institutions.
The approaches outlined here focus on analysing the topics and issues within fiqh, establishing standard rules (al-qawa'id) and supporting them with arguements. This approach inclines towards reasoning and rational argumentation and it separates topics related to the principles of jurisprudence (al-usuliyyah) from the individual rulings of sacred law (al-furu' al-fuqhiyyah).
