The last thirty years has seen the evolution of a corpus of thought now called Islamic economics. Since the First International Conference on Islamic economics held in Jeddah in 1976, literature on the subject has increased voluminously. While even critics of Islamic economics have admitted to its increasing sophistication and mathematical rigour, comparative analysis has not received adequate attention. Contemporary Islamic economics covers the writings of many scholars from diverse backgrounds. While differences of opinion are a reality in Islamic scholarship , not many contemporary writers choose to discuss 'differences;. This book does just this. By looking into the views of six leading contemporary Islamic economists on various aspects, it is shown that these differences constitute a spectrum of contemporary Islamic economics. It provides students of the subject and laymen a more systematic way of understanding contemporary Islamic economics, including the debates taking place within the intellectual arena.
