The thirty-seventh chapter of the Revival of the Religious Sciences. Here Ghazali expounds the reality and level of intention, sincerity and truthfulness as well as their interdependance and acts which both affirm and mar them. Ghazali links sincere and truthful intention with the heart and calls it 'the spirit of action'. As with all his works the scholar bases his arguements on the Qur'an, Hadith, the life of the prophet and numerous sayings of scholars and Sufis. This provides for essential reading for all who are seeking a deeper insight into their thoughts, actions and integrity of their intentions, as well as the ethics and principles that underlie the choices we make.
Translated along with an introduction and notes by scholar Anthony F. Shaker.
