This issue looks at the multiple ways Muslims, people of colour and oppressed groups are co-opted, mainpulated and divided by oppressive establishments.

With contributions from Sayyid Amjad Hussain, Sahib Mustaqim Blehere, Dedan Kimanthi and Faisal Bodi.

In the case of sectarian Muslim narratives, these divisions play out in geopolitical strategies that benefit the 'west'.  What is particularly galling and discussed in detail (Sayyid Amjad Hussain), is how these narrative shave disfigured mainstream Muslim thought and practice.  In national terms in countries like the UK co-option by the state of certain groups and figures in minoritised communities has led to an identity crisis as well as deradicalisation amongst people of colour who have internalised a deeply problematic idea of Britishness (Dedan Kimanth).  Muslims in these national contexts face similar dilemmas, despite the injunctions of faith to stand up against oppression, no matter the personal cost (Sahib Mustaqim Bleher).  This suppressing of dissent has led in the UK context is partly the cause but also the outcome of the anti-terrorist regime, the latest iteration of which, the National Security Act 2006, has further widened the net around legitimate expressions of dissent (Faisal Bodi).
